Interesting...
That's the word I use to describe pregnancy. It's not good nor bad, just interesting. In the past few weeks I've started feeling the baby move and it's an interesting feeling. Very weird and although I may hit Raju when he says it's an alien, I have to agree that it could very well feel like that. These kicks and rolls and bubbles are kind of freaky knowing it's a live being inside my belly. Today it has been very quiet but generally it likes to be active in the afternoon/early evening. I guess we'll see if that trend continues when it comes out.

Weighing in and other random baby thoughts
Yesterday I had my monthly OB appointment. As usual I did not get on the scale since last month. I got on and nearly fell off. I've put on another 8 lbs which brings me to 148 lbs!!!! No wonder my back has started to hurt me.I've also started to call around and really prepare for various baby things.
A few weeks ago I went with Camilla to Babies' R Us to start my registry. Thankfully she was with me or else I would have turned around and left. I did not find it fun at all and it was too overwhelming. I am also frustrated with their site as on-line I'll sign up for items in cream or some other neutral colour and it somehow changes to blue.
In a couple of weeks I will be going to Moms to be and More and will hopefully have a better experience there. I know someone else who went there and said they were much more knowledgeable.
I also started calling around for daycares. I'm on a couple of waitlists now but feel like it's kind of a waste. The one's located in the downtown core are really hard to get into. I'm on the waitlist but at the bottom as top priority goes to those who work in the building.
Then I moved on to pediatricians and have been told to call back in a month as they aren't currently accepting new patients. How do you find child care in the city???????
And my final rant/miscellaneous musings...why didn't anyone ever tell me about the stomach pains? Not cramps or indigestion but the skin pains that you get as your body is stretching. That was new and uncomfortable and some days just downright painful.

Monthly Doctor Visit - Spoiler Alert - Gender
Yesterday I had my monthly visit with the Dr. I'm up to 140lbs. I can't believe it!!!! The doctor also had the results from our Ultrasound. Everything looks good, and it seems like we may be expecting a girl. However, I'm not running out to buy pink for everything. I still feel like it's not 100% positive and the technician didn't sound like it was easy to see when we were there. I don't have a sense one way or the other and will really be happy with either one as long as the baby is healthy, so I'll continue to prepare for either one.
I will need another ultrasound at 32 weeks because at the moment my placenta is in the way. 95% of the time it moves but if it doesn't then I will not be able to deliver normally and I suspect will have a C-section instead. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

5 Month Baby Bump
Well, I've made it to the 1/2 way mark. 20 weeks down, 20 to go. Here's what my growing baby bump looks like. I think that I may have started feeling the baby a bit too. I'm not too sure because I get all kinds of weird feelings so it could just be my muscles popping or shifting. I did try to have a talk with 'baby' about night-time being for sleeping and day time is when they can be active. I'm trying to start training them early. Let's see if it works.

19 weeks
Yesterday we went for our anatomic ultrasound. This is the one where they take all the measurements and ensure all the body parts and organs are where they should be and developing. It's also where we hopefully are able to find out the gender. Unfortunately our baby was positioned in such a way we could not tell. The technician has sent the pictures to our doctor so maybe he will have a bit of a clue. If not, I guess we just wait until the next ultrasound or until baby is born.
It was pretty neat. We got to see baby put both thumbs in their mouth and also it looked like they were 'counting' as they opened their hand one figure at a time. A very surreal experience and hard to believe this little being (see picture - courtesy of 3D technology) is in my belly. Maybe when I start to feel the kicks and pokes I'll start to believe it more.

Monthly OB Visit
This morning I had my second appointment with Dr. Zaltz. These are great because they are so quick. The results were back from my tests for Down Syndrome. Basically they take the results from 2 blood work ups and an ultrasound and determine the statistical result of a woman having a baby with Down Sydrome. For someone my age, they are looking for a result of 1 in 180. The calculation for us, was less than 1 in 20,000. Yeah!!!! That means I do no have to go for an amnio, which I am soooo happy about.
I have somehow managed to put on another 6 pounds this past month so my weight is up to 136 lbs. I'm not really sure how I feel about that. I don't get on the scale at all between visits because I don't really want to know. What difference will it make anyway right? I'm just going to continually be putting on weight over the next several months anyway. The hear rate was about 135. The doctor predicts it will be a boy. I guess we'll see. He has a 50/50 chance of being right.
I go for my detailed ultrasound on June 13th and we'll try to find out the gender but I think I'll have to wait until my next doctor's appointment to find out as Ultrasound tech's aren't supposed to provide that information. We'll see what happens. Maybe we'll get a nice technician who will provide the information anyway.
